Dedication To Testing
CLCJAWA drinking water is regulated by the Environmental Protection Act (EPA), the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Staying in compliance of all these regulations ensures that the drinking water produced at our facility is of the highest quality.
CLCJAWA rigorously tests the drinking water for well over 300 possible contaminants, of which over 90 are regulated by the EPA/IL EPA. We are constantly adding to and changing this list based on new and emerging contaminant information. We elect to test additional possible contaminants to gain a better understanding of our source water. See below for the possible contaminants we test for. Check out all our historic testing reported to the IL EPA at the Drinking Water Watch site.
Regulated Contaminants
Regulated compounds have been shown to impact health when they exceed regulations. The maximum level allowed in water is set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It is set at a level that assures the tap water is safe to consume over a lifetime.

Unregulated Contaminants
Unregulated compounds are those that the EPA does not believe pose a health threat in drinking water or are still being evaluated. We are regulated by the Illinois Environmental Agency (IEPA) as are all drinking water plants in Illinois. The IEPA lists over 90 compounds that we must test for on an annual basis in our water. These compounds are the regulated compounds. We also voluntarily test our water for more than 200 additional compounds that are unregulated.
